piandemonium
(pi-an'-de-mo'-ne-um)
A (semi)automatic musical (?) instrument, using the "harp" artifact
as a starting point. No finished examples of this instrument, which
was originally developed for the 1989 Festival of the Swamps,
exist. The instrument incorporates electronic controls which play
the instrument, using sensors to gain feedback from the
environment (such as a photocell). At the same time, it is always
possible to play the harp manually, either through the electronics
or by plucking or pounding the strings. The ideal piandemonium is
one constructed entirely from discarded or
"surplus" parts and objects.
