  debating politics, religion, the merrit of pancakes,or
  anything else online. Ebates can range from two sentences
  exchanged in an email to hours, days, weeks long arguments in
  chatrooms that never get anywhere. The word stems from the
  word "debate," it is online, hence the beginning with "e." You
  know, like email.
